How We Use AI at Kove
Transparency isn’t just a tab on our website, it’s how we operate. Here’s an honest breakdown of where AI is involved in Kove, and where it isn’t.
Kove AI (The Chatbot)
Kove has a built-in AI assistant called Kove AI, powered by Anthropic’s Claude Haiku model. It’s there to help you understand your finances, answer questions, and give you context when you need it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Your conversations with Kove AI are not used by Anthropic to train their models.
- Chat data is retained by Kove for internal purposes only, to improve how Kove AI understands your questions and serves you better over time, and for compliance.
- If you’d rather not use it, you can disable Kove AI entirely in your account settings. No impact to your plan.
Not a financial advisor.
Kove AI is an assistant, not a licensed financial advisor. Anything it says should be treated as informational, not as financial advice. Always use your own judgment, and consult a professional for decisions that matter.
What’s Coming
AI’s role in Kove will grow, but deliberately.
The immediate focus is refining Kove AI through RAG, building out a structured knowledge base so the assistant gives you answers grounded in real context, not generic responses. Better questions deserve better answers.
Beyond that, we’re working toward AI-powered budgeting that goes further than any static budget tool can. The goal is a system that understands your actual spending patterns, flags anomalies, and builds a budget that accounts for the things a simple calculator ignores, seasonal expenses, irregular income, lifestyle shifts. A budget that reflects your life, not a spreadsheet template.
None of this changes the core principle: AI surfaces information. You make the decisions.
How Kove Is Built
Kove is coded with the assistance of AI models. But there’s a distinction worth making clearly: AI doesn’t design Kove, a human does.
Every page, every feature, every interaction is deliberately decided. What should this screen look like? How should this button behave? What does a Kove user actually need here? Those decisions aren’t delegated to a model. AI implements the code as directed. The architecture, the design, the product direction, that’s human work.
We’re not interested in shipping AI slop. We’re interested in building something that actually works for people.
Why We Use AI at All
The honest answer: to keep costs down for you.
Kove is a one-person operation. Using AI efficiently, not recklessly, allows us to build and maintain a full-featured personal finance platform without the overhead of a large team. That cost savings gets passed directly to users in the form of lower pricing.
AI is a tool. How you use it is what matters.
